So the CDC,HHS,all the way down to my own health officials and school super seem to be fully aware that the H1N1 flu virus will be hitting with a vengence this fall. They all know that a vaccine is not available yet. They all know that this flu is a killer to some and there is no way to know who it is that will be it’s unlucky victim.
Yet all those who are aware of the dangers seem just fine in telling me and my kids to go about our days as if there is nothing going on.
They tell me to send my kids to school because they will teach them to wash their hands. They say to send them because it would interfere with my job.
I taught my kids to wash well when they were babies.I cant find a job in this wretched economy so my job is to be here for my kids. I am just a mommy but imo,the best thing for me to do is to stop believing their lies that this is a mild disease and the kids are better off in school.I won’t let my babies be a part of the collateral damages that seem to be acceptable to them.
Close the schools until a vaccine is given and studies prove the kids have immunity.Let them make it up later.Just one moms opinion

You are 100% correct. Our kids are more important then jobs. Our kids are more important then a few months of missed school. Our kids can’t be replaced. Thank you for writing this.

Good for you, Mal!
I have some friends that are wringing their hands because the school system won’t excuse their two school-age kids, even though 1) they have a six-month old recovering from pertussis and 2) absentee rates are pushing 12%. It feels like they ought to just paint a bullseye on themselves.

I think it is someone else who has painted that bullseye on your friends back.In fact I think the new school uniforms for this 09/10 school year come standard with a bullseye.

Hi, Malachi! It seems as though the authorities making these decisions care more about the monolithic “economy” than any individual childrens’ lives. Just keep working and spending and let the children get sick!~
Another thing that really bothers me as their message that children will be trained better in school than at home – as though parents are so slovenlyand irresponsible that they can’t keep their children clean and safe. Children can handle a few weeks or months without school, but any children that die will learn nothing.
